Home Watching Review
“It is up to all of us.” It is the quote we see after watching this documentary film. I am sure that it describes the main idea and message of the film. We live in a developing world, and all of us consume things that cause global warming. We’ve all contributed to this.
This is an amazing documentary film that can help people to understand the whole situation in the world, in different countries and continents. Leonardo DiCaprio
played a significant role in it. I think that was a really wise solution to make him the United Nations Messenger of Peace on Climate Change because millions of people around the world know him, and they will definitely pay attention to the ecological problems if popular people talk about them publicly. Significant work was made to give us the possibility to see all consequences of human activity. It is very interesting to see the different sides of that issue. For example, the views of American and Indian governments and, of course, showing scientists who deny the impact of climate change. I was impressed by the beginning where Leonardo was describing the Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymus Bosch above his crib because it helped us to understand that he was not just an actor in this film, he was an interested person who wanted to change people’s minds. I’m sure this film is thought-provoking and makes everyone think about their personal impact on our future and the future of our descendants. It helped me to understand that the problem of global warming is more serious than I could imagine.
I absolutely recommend everyone to watch this documentary movie to learn more about one of the most important issues nowadays. People are already struggling with it and we should take it seriously and start taking measures right now!

3. Explain Lord Arthur's reconciliation with the prediction. How does his solution to the problem contribute to the comedy of the text?
Lord Artur was sure that he had to commit a crime before becoming Sybil’s husband. Author writes that ”it would be a betray like that of Judas” if he marries Sybil, knowing his doom. He immediately came up with the idea of murder, but two of his attempts were unsuccessful, which definitely contributes to the comedy of the text.
4. Summarize Lord Arthur's first and second attempts at murder.
At first, Lord Arthur made a list of his friends and relatives and decided to kill Lady Clementina Beauchamp by poisoning her. He brought her an American “cure” with aconitine and claimed that she should take it while having heartburn. Some days later, the main character received a telegram with news about Lady Clem’s death. She left Lord Arthur her house and Sybil found there that box with aconitine. He understood that he hadn’t committed that murder.
Because of the failure in his first attempt, he decided to kill his uncle, the Dean of Chichester. He was obsessed with collecting clocks. Lord Arthur immediately thought about sending him an explosive clock. Lord Arthur’s friend Rouvaloff sent him to Herr Winckelkopf, he was generous enough to make that clock for free. Lord waited with excitement for 12 o’clock Friday to receive “good” news and got nothing. Two days later, when he was going upstairs, the Duchess showed him a letter from the Deanery. She told a story about the clock sent by an unknown admirer. They put in the library and at 12 o’clock they heard a noise and saw a figure, the goddess of Liberty, which felt from the pedestal and broke her nose. It was the alarm clock. Lord Arthur was really upset reading this letter because he realized that everything had failed for the second time.

As for me, the most ironic thing was Lord Arthur’s confidence and conviction that all his attempts at committing murder were because of “good intentions”. He was really sure that killing someone was his duty and was seriously writing lists of relatives and friends, whom he could kill, which adds more humor to the text.

Reread the following quote from paragraph 188: "Once he thought that he caught sight of the bulky misshapen figure striking out for the staircase by the bridge, and a horrible feeling of failure came over him, but it turned out to be merely a reflection, and when the moon shone out from behind a cloud it passed away." What is the author's likely purpose for including this piece of imagery?

1. One definition of comedy is that is shows the rise of an unexpected hero. Based on this definition, how is "Lord Arthur Savile's Crime" a comedy? Explain your answer.
Lord Arthur Savile's Crime is a comedy because at the end of the story Lord Arthur killed cheiromantist Mr. Podgers who read his hand and predicted murder in the future. The element of comedy is that Mr. Podges appeared spontaneously near the Thames and the main character killed him to fulfill destiny, which Mr. Podges himself told.
2. In paragraph 68, Lord Arthur laments his destiny and the part he is to play in it ("...he felt that some tragedy was hanging over him, and that he had been suddenly called upon to bear an intolerable burden."). Are there any elements of tragedy in this shortstory? Cite evidence from the text.
I think this story is tragicomedy because, besides the irony and other parts of comedy, we can see the main character’s disturbance, internal conflict and the death of the character (Mr. Podges). The other example of tragedy was the scene near the Thames, where Lord Arthur was upset after all failures. He saw the cheiromantist and flung him into the Thames. For a moment he saw Mr. Podges striking out for the staircase by the bridge. It was really tense moment.
3. Oscar Wilde is known for writing works that criticize the times in which he lived. What elements of society does Wilde criticize in "Lord Arthur Savile's Crime"?
Oscar Wilde criticized the upper class in his times, he criticized their sense of the duty and their desire to control fate. As an example, I would like to use Lady Windermere’s saying, she said Sybil she went for telepathy and it was much more amusing. It proves that people were trying to find something to believe in.
4. What can we learn from comedy? Cite evidence from this text, your own experience, and other literature, art, or history in your answer.
The main thing I learned from this text is that your future depends only on your choices. Lord Arthur didn’t even try to prevent his doom, he instantly started looking for ways to make it come true. We don’t know what his future would look like if he didn’t believe Mr. Podges.
5. In the context of this story, do you believe it is possible to control your own fate, or is it all up to destiny? Cite evidence from this text, your own experience, and other literature or art in your answer.
I believe that we all have the possibility of influencing our destiny, as well as other people. Maybe Mr. Podges would be alive if he didn’t tell Lord Arthur his fate. I am sure that fate is controlled by people, and instead of keeping away from murder, Lord Arthur decided to make it as soon as possible. He himself turned the prediction into reality. He said that he owed to the cheiromancy all the happiness of his life because he truly believed that he could not marry Sybil, although they were engaged.

Computational Linguistics (CL). “Комп’ютерна лінгвістика” in Ukrainian language. It is used to study, process, generate and analyse written and spoken language by computation data and computer technology.
Natural Language Processing (NPL). “Обробка природної мови” in Ukrainian. It is a subset of CL. This term is about understanding human language through computer systems. It contains a lot of analyses in syntax, semantics and morphology. It makes computers work with language comparable to humans.
Human Language Technology (HLT). “Технології людської мови” in Ukrainian. It is a field that contains many disciplines, like computer science, mathematics, artificial intelligence, statistics, linguistics, NLP, CL and many others. It is the study of the way computer programs or different electronic devices analyse, interact with and respond to spoken or written language and the study of finding ways to make programs and devises understand language in different forms
Engineering Linguistics “Інженерна лінгвістика” in Ukrainian. Its aim is to create tools, such as algorithms, language resources for processing natural language.
Language Engineering “Мовна інженерія” in Ukrainian. It is a field which learns how to communicate with computers through language. It helps people to work with different types of information more effectively because computer systems can perform many language-related tasks. For example, recognizing written and spoken language, machine translation, creating voice commands, document image recognition and others.
To my mind, these terms are related because they focus on language data and human-computer interaction, but they are all different in their content. But all these terms are used for one aim: cooperation of language and technology in various manifestations and tasks. I am satisfied with what I have translated in Ukrainian language because terms do not lose their essence and main content in translation.

Я провела презентацію про Навчально-науковий інститут лінгвістики та НАУОА в Шепетівський навчально-виховний комплекс "Загальноосвітня школа І-ІІІ ступенів - гімназія" Хмельницької області. Презентація була проведена для учнів 11-А класу, 17 учнів були присутні. Я розповіла про перелік спеціальностей Навчально-наукового інституту лінгвістики, особливості нової спеціальності 035.10 Прикладна лінгвістика, додаткові можливості, міжнародну співпрацю, наукові гуртки, семінари, мовні клуби, студентське самоврядування та можливості працевлаштування. Учні були зацікавлені моєю розповіддю та поставили кілька запитань.
1. Яка вартість навчання за рік?
Я відповіла, що вартість навчання денної форми обох спеціальностей у 2023 р становила 30500.
2. Які ще є інститути та факультети?
Я розповіла, що у Національному університеті “Острозька академія” діють: Навчально-науковий інститут соціально-гуманітарного менеджменту, Навчально-науковий інститут міжнародних відносин та національної безпеки, Навчально-науковий інститут права ім. І. Малиновського, Навчально-науковий інститут лінгвістики, Економічний факультет;
3. На якому рівні вивчають іноземні мови в Інституті лінгвістики?
Відповіла, що англійську мову вивчають на рівні C1,а німецьку або французьку на рівні B2.
Висновок
Протягом виконання комунікативної практики я поглибила свої знання з англійської мови. Я працювала з багатьма матеріалами англійською мовою та аналізувала їх, використовувала онлайн-словники, здобула навички транскрибування тексту та поглибила словниковий запас. Окрім того, особливістю практики було створення блогу та написання дослідження про терміни комп’ютерної лінгвістики, що дозволило мені дізнатися про їх особливості. Я переконана, що виконання комунікативної практики допомогло мені інтенсивно працювати над вдосконаленням англійської мови. Впродовж практики я виявила прогалини у транскрибуванні, але робота із текстом сприяла розвитку моїх навичок.
